I’m Giorgia, a Chicago-based video editor and documentary filmmaker with nearly a decade of experience in commercial and narrative nonfiction editing. I’ve worked on a wide range of projects, including features, shorts, trailers, commercials, and social media campaigns, collaborating with clients including Disney, Walmart, and the University of Chicago. Driven by an unrelenting curiosity, I’m most interested in the complexities of a story, my role in shaping it, and its real-world implications. My editorial style has been described as playful, intuitive, and bold—three words that also describe who I am as a person. My process is primarily guided by the raw footage, understanding that the “truth” of a story lies between the layers of intention and what is captured. From my perspective, this is at the heart of authentic storytelling. I firmly believe in the power of media to shape how we perceive the world, and my work seeks to broaden our understanding of one another. Above all, I value collaboration and feel honored to have worked alongside many talented creatives on projects that are deeply meaningful to me.
Most recently, I edited No One Asked You, an award-winning documentary feature that follows the reproductive rights organization Abortion Access Front over five years on the frontlines of the escalating battle over Roe v. Wade. It premiered at DOCNYC in 2023 and has since screened at over 20 festivals nationwide. Vanity Fair wrote, “[No One Asked You] takes abortion out of the abstract ideological shout-fest and humanizes the issue."
In addition to editing, I’ve worn many other hats throughout the years. In 2018, I worked as both animator and editor for Radioactive: Stories From Beyond the Wall, a series of community-engaged radio/visual broadcasts centering the voices of those currently incarcerated. In 2020, I color graded Head to Head, a feature documentary about women coping with traumatic changes to their self-image after unexpectedly losing their hair, and Larry from Gary, a short documentary about a dance teacher who continues to inspire students despite his school being shut down by the state. In 2022, I animated How to Decarbonize a State, a video highlighting the work of WinClimate, an organization using data science to support legislators and advocates working to pass state-level climate policies. In 2023, I was a rotoscope artist for Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man if He Was an Idea, a 3D documentary feature about the life and work of artist H.C. Westermann, narrated by four-time Academy Award nominee Ed Harris.
My guiding principles are rooted in embracing nuance, upholding integrity, and continuously expanding my understanding of the world. Outside of filmmaking, I love teaching documentary editing at the Hyde Park Arts Center, volunteering at Chicago Women’s Health Center, weaving textiles, and tap dancing.
